Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley say their daughter is "working to recover" from the "dangerous actions she took" Saturday when New York City police received an emergency call saying Alexa Ray Joel had taken several pills.

Joel and Brinkley on Wednesday also said a report published Tuesday in the New York Post was "filled with vicious lies and attempts to smear our character and that of our beloved daugther."

The Post story said 23-year-old Alexa Ray Joel attempted suicide after a fight with her supermodel mother during a family vacation in Turks and Caicos. Her parents called the report "false."

A spokeswoman for the Post didn't immediately have a comment.

A publicist for Alexa Ray Joel said this week that she was feeling better and was with family.
